Article from Concord Monitor Online
Folks, John Edwards has a new socialist plan for America. Think I’m kidding? Read on.
In this article from the Concord Monitor Online Edwards outlines some things he’d like to do if he is elected President. Included:
- Savings Accounts for the low-income
- A Minimum Wage Increase
- And a plan called “College for Everyone”
But it isn’t really the plan that alarms me so much as to the way he presented it. “I think if we want to fund the things that I think are important to share in prosperity, then people who have done well in this country, including me, have more of a responsibility to give back,” he said.
Those that have done well in this country, including himself, have more of a responsibility to give back? What responsibility? I don’t have the responsibility to give anything to anyone, much less, back. I don’t know about you, Johnny, but nobody has given me anything, ever; I have worked for everything I have. Tell me why I should give what I’ve bent my back for, what I’ve blistered my hands for, what I’ve diligently and tirelessly worked for to someone else, simply because they don’t have it?
Ladies and gentlemen, this country was not built on equal prosperity – only the opportunity to be all you can be. You deserve what you earn, and you earn only what you’re willing to work for. Ronald Reagan said, “A communist is someone who reads Marx and Lenin, an anti-communist is someone who understands Marx and Lenin.” Well, I understand Marx and Lenin – apparently John Edwards does not. Sharing in prosperity was not something is country founded on and is not something we should even consider.
