The influence of El-Rushbo

November 19, 2007

I’m just casually driving along today, on my way home from a grueling day of classes – not so much – and I’m listening to the father of talk radio, Rush Limbaugh. Mah Hah Rushie received several consecutive calls in regards to the Republican nomination for the election in 2008. The big question is, who does Rush want to win the GOP nomination?

Well, I cannot tell you the answer to that question. The only person that can is El-Rushbo, the thing about it is this though – he will not do it. Why? Because he does not want to have that kind of influence on who wins. He went on to say something like “They have a civic duty to prove themselves” or some bull feces in that context. What that translates to, though, is much different. It is more like “Well, I know who I want to win; and I know who could beat the liberals. But… I am not telling.”

He will not endorsed a candidate, because if he did the GOP might as well not have the primaries or the convention; rather, just send to bat whomever Rush deems worth. This is what I have dubbed the Limbaugh effect. He is the man and while you may not like it – he is talk radio. No other talk radio host has his ability, his influence – no other talk radio even comes close to having the same number of listeners. Take the “Phony Soldiers” smear, for example. He made the Senate Majority Leader look like a fool! Rush Limbaugh earned 4.2 million dollars, the largest single donation ever, for the Marine Corps Law Enforcement Charity and he did it when it was supposed to ruin him.

If Rush came on tomorrow and said “I endorse Rudy Giuliani for President of the United States.” I guarantee you Rudy Giuliani would win. If Rush said “I endorse Fred Thompson”or “I endorse…” mmm, let’s see “…Duncan Hunter” then you could count on the nomination. So next time somebody asks you, why hasn’t Rush endorsed a candidate, this is why. Because he wants to let them battle out – he doesn’t want to decide for the Republican party who the nomination is. Trust me, if he wanted to – he could.

Democrats don’t make any sense

November 12, 2007

Well, if you didn’t know it before you should now:

Nov. 12 (Bloomberg) — The debate over the Bush tax cuts is heating up, and the Democrats aren’t making any sense.

If you wander into a rally for any of the Democratic presidential candidates, you are sure to witness a lengthy diatribe documenting the terrible damage that President George W. Bush’s tax policies have done to the economy. Hillary Clinton said in a recent debate, “I put fiscal responsibility first… We have to move back toward a more fair and progressive tax system and begin once again to move toward a balanced budget with a surplus.”

Clinton and her Democratic competitors have a big problem. The facts don’t support their negative characterization of the Bush tax cuts. Indeed, everything Bush’s opponents said would happen after taxes were reduced didn’t happen.
